In recent years, I've used the One-Year Bible that organizes daily readings from the OT, NT, Psalms and Proverbs. Over the year the psalms are covered twice. I've got the OYB in both hard copy and electronic forms.

An addendum to my third "F" - fruitfulness. I think all the men and women who attend GA should pray and purpose to bless others. That may through giving a seminar or simply by providing a listening ear or an apt word timely spoken. So many come to the Assembly with challenges that weigh them down--a rebellious child, a lost job, a difficult church situation, struggles with temptations.

Unfortunately there are many "so called" Christians out there, in the public eye, who as you say "make the job harder". Recently at my place of work a white non-believing woman (J) hesitantly asked a black woman (L) (who is open about her faith) about black preachers who, in her view, were preaching a message that seemed designed to stir up hatred. "Is your church like that, does your preacher preach like that?" she asked. There was a moment of surprise/hesitation and L answered "no, and I wouldn't go to a church or listen to a preacher who preached like that". We both were able to share briefly with J and I shared with her my sorrow over other "Christian" groups in the news who I felt dishonored Christianity with their non-Christ-like attitudes and actions. Interesting that she was willing to ask the question!

Thanks Rhett.

The Marshall quotation reminded me of something I read a few weeks ago. If I may, here it is:

"To say 'I am going to church' both reveals and promotes bad theology. In the earliest days of Christianity, 'the church' was a living and vibrant gathering of God's people, who met together to be strengthened and then went out into the world to maifest the gospel in thier actions and their very beings....

"...We are NOT 'going to church'! We are going to a -sanctuary- to participate in an -order of worship- together with other -people of God- gathered in -community-, to be nourished by all that we do there together so that we can go out into the world and -be church-."

Marva J. Dawn, Keeping the Sabbath Wholly: Ceasing, Resting, Embracing, Feasting (emphases are from the author).

This quotation was convicting to me because I think that far too often I find myself 'going to church.' Anyway, thanks again for your post.

If I was convinced that the world was going to end on a specific date I would turn around and start evangelizing like crazy (which I should be doing more than I am). The single thing that I found most troubling about Harold Camping and his followers was that they were not passionate about evangelism. Sure they wanted everyone to know that the world would end, but they were not passionate about telling people how to be saved aside from "pray for mercy." The preaching of the gospel is my litmus test for God's presence in a movement.

As preached this morning, "Salvation is by faith alone and by grace alone in Jesus Christ alone." Its little wonder this prognostication (and all others about the date of Christ's return) was wrong since this false prophet's message of salvation does not rely completely and solely on Christ. This serves as a reminder that only the Father knows the day and the hour of Christ's return, as Rhett cites in Matt. 24:36. Our Heavenly Father knows what is best for His children and His Creation, so He warns us many times about false teaching in His Word. Praise God!

Rhett,

Good morning brother! I am overjoyed to read your blog. You have had the best answer that I heave heard yet to this false gospel. May the Lord continue to richly bless you and your minstry for His glory.
